Chelsea: Why the Blues should end alleged interest in Cristiano Ronaldo

Chelsea: Why the Blues should end alleged interest in Cristiano Ronaldo - Chelsea Transfer Rumours

Chelsea have been linked to some big fish ahead of the summer transfer window, but none quite as big as Cristiano Ronaldo.

According to Spanish reports (relayed via Sportsmole), the Blues are planning perhaps the biggest shock move of the season as they put together an offer for the Portuguese superstar.

According to a rather brief report, the Real Madrid legend has been linked to a Premier League return. Chelsea are allegedly lining up a mammoth £108million bid in order to convince Juventus to let Ronaldo leave Italy.

Could Cristiano Ronaldo come to Stamford Bridge?

No way!

No way!

In his entire senior career so far, Ronaldo has a breathtaking 626 goals in 837 appearances as well as 219 assists (via Transfermarkt). He also boasts three Premier League titles, five Champions League trophies and five Ballon d’Or awards, to highlight just a slice of his gargantuan success.

It would be the mother of all transfer windows if Frank Lampard managed to snare one of the greatest players in footballing history after just two years in management.

However, it seems fair to say the Blues are very unlikely to land Ronaldo’s signature this summer. Even if talks were strong between the two parties, the former Real Madrid star wouldn’t fit Lampard’s current system. The ex-Chelsea ace is currently onto something exciting, introducing younger players through the academy and giving them chances to shine.

To shoehorn a 35-year-old Ronaldo into the attack would likely upset the apple cart. Not only would it take opportunities away from in-form Tammy Abraham but his salary would also create an issue in the dressing room. According to The18, the Portugal international earns about $663,000 per week, which is more than £521,000 – the club would surely have to sell players to balance the books if he did sign.

Signing Ronaldo would definitely write Chelsea and Lampard into the history books, but it’s not something the club should look to pursue – should there be any legs to the link.
