Chelsea boss Graham Potter has personally given the green-light to target Lille star Jonathan David, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Potter gets backing...

Blues owner Todd Boehly has been making waves with his movement off-the-field, having spent £253 million in the last summer window with reports of more signings in the pipeline.

Chelsea are reportedly one of the clubs keeping tabs on Lyon starlet Malo Gusto whilst the Stamford Bridge side are also believed to in the mix for Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham.

Potter, who was appointed last month in the wake of Thomas Tuchel's departure, has enjoyed a fine start to life with the Premier League giants - remaining unbeaten over his first six games in all competitions.

Amid his fine run, Chelsea hierarchy appear willing to back their new man financially with news emerging on a new marquee target.

The Latest: Potter green-lights David...

According to Jeunesfooteux, Potter has now personally given the green-light for Chelsea to target Lille star David - who is arguably one of Ligue 1's most prominent rising stars.

Chelsea's boss allegedly wants to sign another centre-forward in January, but in the case of David, Potter may need to convince Boehly and co to shell out €60 million (£52m).

The Verdict: Do it...

The Canada international boasts nine goals in 11 French top flight starts already this campaign and ranks as Lille's second-best performer by average match rating (WhoScored).

David has also managed more attempts at goal per 90 than any of his teammates, marking himself out as their biggest threat (WhoScored).

Still just 22-years-old, the sky appears to be the limit for him, with former Leicester City forward Iain Hume calling him 'world class' already.
