Chelsea could be edging closer to signing their next big summer transfer target as Declan Rice reportedly looks for a way out of West Ham.
The Blues have already splashed an astronomical amount of money this window, with newest addition Edouard Mendy taking their outgoings to around the £250million mark. However, it seems the west Londoners aren’t willing to stop there.
With the blessing of Roman Abramovich, Chelsea are hunting down one last player before the window comes to a close. Major target Rice has been on the club’s radar for many months now, but West Ham are eager to keep hold of their star player.
Is £80million a fair asking price for Declan Rice?
Assistant head coach Alan Irvine recently shut down any talks of the 21-year-old leaving the club, firmly stating he is happy where he is. Fabrizio Romano’s take on the situation however paints an entirely different story.
Speaking on the Here We Go podcast (via Express), Romano said: “It won’t be easy and Chelsea are now considering selling players. But Declan Rice will push to join Chelsea. He will go strongly to join Chelsea.
“We will have to see what will happen because he also respects West Ham as normal but he’s going to tell West Ham ‘I want to join Chelsea’.”
The Irons are said to be firm on their stance about keeping Rice, but an offer of £80million would reportedly sway them into selling. If Chelsea splash this mammoth amount of the England international, it will propel them beyond the £300million spending mark.
“Now it’s time to see what Chelsea will bid for Declan Rice because Chelsea are still yet to make an offer,” Romano said.
