Chelsea: Ilkay Gundogan predicts big things for Blues target Kai Havertz - Chelsea Transfer Rumours

Manchester City star Ilkay Gundogan has spoken out about Chelsea’s planned swoop for his international teammate Kai Havertz.

The Blues are closing in on a move for the Bayer Leverkusen ace, who has impressed with his performances in the Bundesliga this season. After notching 12 goals and six assists in the league, clubs were lining up to table an offer for Havertz’s signature. However, due to the financial impact of the pandemic, teams have been forced to withdraw their interest.

Bayern Munich recently announced they were ending their pursuit of the German, which has left Chelsea as the only remaining club in the running. After agreeing personal terms with Marina Granovskaia, Havertz looks set to be joining Stamford Bridge this summer.

Who will be the better signing for Chelsea?

SportBild recently asked Gundogan about what to expect from the 21-year-old should the move to the Premier League come to fruition.

“I expect great things from him,” the City ace said (via Sport Witness). “Kai’s potential is unlimited, there are no limits. He brings a lot with him, and now it’s up to him to show off this enormous talent. He has this calm and serenity on the ball, and is a prudent type on the other side.”

Havertz will join fellow Germans Antonio Rudiger and Timo Werner at Chelsea should the two sides agree on a fee. He will be Frank Lampard’s third attacking signing of the summer and will hope to help the Blues push for silverware next term.

The playmaker has been likened to Germany icon Michael Ballack, who also represented Bayer Leverkusen and the West London outfit. Gundogan has delivered a huge compliment to the youngster, claiming Havertz is already ‘better than Ballack’.

Should the Blues look to wrap up this deal, they will likely need to offer about £70million, after a football.london report claimed Leverkusen were willing to lower their asking price (via Sportsmole).
