Chelsea’s battle to keep Willian at Stamford Bridge seems to be one they’ve lost as the Brazilian hopes for a move to Arsenal.
After seven years with the Blues, the 31-year-old could be set to trade in his blue colours to represent the red of north London. A report from The Mirror claimed that Willian has told close friends that he is holding out for a move to Arsenal in order to stay in London.
Is Willian going to be missed at Chelsea?
The winger is available on a free contract after his deal with Chelsea expired and no new terms were penned. He seemed to be on the brink of a new agreement with the club but talks have broken down with neither party agreeing on a way to move forward.
Willian told Brazilian YouTube channel De Sola last month that he wanted to sign a new three-year contract at Stamford Bridge but Chelsea were only able to offer two years. This appears to have been the tipping point for the attacker, who will leave for pastures new.
In a fresh report from Sky Sports, the Gunners are ready to present a three-year offer for Willian, which is exactly what he was seeking with their London rivals.
David Beckham’s new franchise Inter Miami were also reportedly interested in his services. However, with his family already settled in London, Willian has admitted that he will reject a mega-money move across the Atlantic even after it was discovered that Beckham’s offer was the most lucrative on the table.
The 31-year-old will close his chapter at Chelsea having played 339 matches in blue and contributing 63 goals and 62 assists (via Transfermarkt).
