# Chelsea learn price for 29-year-old Barcelona star as transfer plans take shape

[Chelsea](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/chelsea-fc-transfer-rumours/) are continuing to assess their midfield options after losing Enzo Fernández to Manchester City during the summer transfer window.

The Argentine’s departure has left a significant gap in the Blues’ engine room, with the club now looking at potential reinforcements ahead of January.

[Xabi Alonso’s side have explored alternative targets](https://chelseanews.com/blog/chelsea-transfer-news-alex-scott-7/?utm_source=thumbnail&utm_medium=aggregator&utm_campaign=related-stories), but one experienced Barcelona midfielder has emerged as a serious option.

However, securing his signature could prove costly, with the Spanish giants reportedly setting a substantial asking price.

## **Chelsea Learn Frenkie de Jong Transfer Price**

[According to Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/chelsea/transfers/sources-chelsea-set-sights-on-complicated-frenkie-de-jong-deal), Chelsea will need to pay at least £50 million to persuade Barcelona to sell Frenkie de Jong during the January transfer window.

[The 29-year-old Netherlands international has emerged as a target as the Blues](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/chelsea-frenkie-de-jong-transfer-barcelona/) look to bring creativity and experience into their midfield. However, the reported £50m valuation is understood to be a starting point, meaning Chelsea could have to offer even more to convince Barcelona to negotiate.

De Jong remains an important figure at the Camp Nou, having joined from Ajax in 2019 and made more than 300 appearances for the Catalan club. He has also helped Barcelona win multiple league titles, making him a difficult player for the Spanish side to replace.

His current contract runs until 2029, leaving Barcelona under little pressure to sell. The club are also keen to have him back available after his recent injury, with his return to fitness potentially complicating Chelsea’s pursuit.

The midfielder is reportedly nearing a comeback and could feature again in the coming weeks. Barcelona will therefore want to assess his contribution before considering whether to entertain offers.

For Chelsea, De Jong could provide the composure and progressive passing needed to help fill the void left by Fernández. His experience at the highest level would also add a different dimension to Alonso’s midfield options.

The Blues had previously considered a move for Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, but that deal collapsed on deadline day. De Jong has now emerged as another potential solution, although the financial demands could make negotiations difficult.

With Barcelona holding a strong contractual position, Chelsea will need to decide whether the Dutchman is worth an investment exceeding £50m. Their interest is clear, but a January deal is far from guaranteed.
