# Chelsea: Granovskaia must jump at Leeds United interest in Michy Batshuayi – Opinion

**According to a report from [the Evening Standard](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/chelsea-transfer-fund-boost-leeds-michy-batshuayi-a4527301.html), Leeds United have ‘registered an interest’ in striker Michy Batshuayi who could be sold by Chelsea to fund a 2020/2021 transfer overhaul – and sporting director Marina Granovskaia would be foolish not to jump at the chance.**

Batshuayi, starting just one Premier League game over the whole of last season under manager Frank Lampard ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/97803/History/Michy-Batshuayi)), found game time difficult to come by – with fellow back-up striker Olivier Giroud often preferred as a super sub.

The centre-forward failed to impress Lampard – who once lauded his ‘[top class](https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/2019/11/02/frank-lampard-praises-michy-batshuayi-s-attitude-and-wishes-engl)‘ attitude – when given the opportunity, resulting in his French teammate being placed above him in the pecking order.

During the brief minutes in which he got to prove his worth, the Belgian international bagged just [one goal and an assist](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/97803/History/Michy-Batshuayi) – figures which hardly justify his current [£90,000-per-week wages.](https://sillyseason.com/salary/chelsea-players-salaries-67985/)

Since signing for the Blues, Batshuayi has barely featured or managed to gain a consistent run in the team – spending the whole of the 2018/2019 season on loan at both [Valencia and Crystal Palace.](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/97803/History/Michy-Batshuayi)

Chelsea saw fit to snap up the attacker in a [£33 million deal](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36698980) back in the summer of 2016 after an impressive [17-goal Ligue 1 haul](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/97803/History/Michy-Batshuayi) at Marseille.

However, the 26-year-old has since been unable to replicate the goalscoring prowess which landed him a big-money move to west London nearly half a decade ago.

Now, with Leeds United registering an interest, Chelsea have the perfect opportunity to offload Batshuayi for a potentially reasonable fee.

Given he is out-of-contract next summer, the clock is ticking to reduce pressure on the wage bill and conduct efficient business in time for a successful Premier League title challenge.
