# Chelsea join Man United in pursuit of Premier League star

![maneeeee](https://cdn.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/maneeeee-500x306.jpg)Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are rubbing their hands in excitement, whilst the Manchester United supporters have let out large groans and ordered a round in to commiserate.

[*The Independent* claims Chelsea will rival Manchester United for the signature of Southampton star Sadio Mane this month, with the Senegalese international expected to be on the move.](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/chelsea-transfer-rumours-and-news-sadio-mane-linked-alex-teixeira-move-close-and-ulises-davila-deal-a6797031.html)

Mane was heavily criticised by Saints boss Ronald Koeman in the aftermath of Southampton’s 1-0 defeat to Norwich City, with the 23-year-old midfielder ousted from the starting line-up after arriving two hours late to a team meeting.

That incident has intensified speculation that Mane will leave the South Coast this month, [with the African star unsettled with the recent rumours.](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/chelsea-transfer-rumours-and-news-sadio-mane-linked-alex-teixeira-move-close-and-ulises-davila-deal-a6797031.html)

Southampton, in ideal circumstances, do not want to sell but there is a general acceptance amongst the Saints fans at the bar that they’re fighting a losing battle- and many believe it would be good to agree a large fee for the midfielder and swiftly move on.

Our landlord agrees Southampton are also fighting against the odds but he’s concerned that Mane is not a player who can easily be replaced.
