# Chelsea: Kepa Arrizabalaga keen to battle for spot as Blues chase Rennes ‘keeper Edouard Mendy

**According to an exclusive report from [The Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/12539548/kepa-arrizabalaga-chelsea-transfer-fight-jersey/), polarising Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is keen to remain and Stamford Bridge and fight for his place despite the Blues chasing a plethora of ‘keepers, including Rennes’ Edouard Mendy.**

As per [The Guardian](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/aug/29/chelsea-set-to-increase-offer-for-rennes-goalkeeper-edouard-mendy), Chelsea had an initial £14.2m bid for the Ligue 1 player rejected recently, but sporting director Marina Granovskaia is reportedly keen on strengthening between the sticks and could lodge an increased offer.

However, with Arrizabalaga’s future in doubt, [The Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/12539548/kepa-arrizabalaga-chelsea-transfer-fight-jersey/) now claim that the Spaniard will not lie down as a result and will continue to fight for his place.

After shipping [54 goals in the Premier League](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/12539548/kepa-arrizabalaga-chelsea-transfer-fight-jersey/) last term, more than any other team in the top 10, Chelsea have begun a full defensive rebuild with the acquisitions of Ben Chilwell and Brazil veteran Thiago Silva, but a new goalkeeper seemingly remains on the agenda.

[The Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/12539548/kepa-arrizabalaga-chelsea-transfer-fight-jersey/) stated that Arrizabalaga in particular was being made a ‘scapegoat’ due to the Blues’ frailty at the back, with the 25-year-old keen to prove his doubters wrong.

Having been left out of Chelsea’s FA Cup final clash a month ago and omitted for their Champions League tie with Bayern Munich a week later, Arrizabalaga appears to face a battle to get back in the squad, especially with the likes of Mendy, Nick Pope, Dean Henderson and Jan Oblak all [being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/12539548/kepa-arrizabalaga-chelsea-transfer-fight-jersey/).

Indeed, the [£150,000-per-week](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/12539548/kepa-arrizabalaga-chelsea-transfer-fight-jersey/) ace could face competition from a new arrival if these rumours come to fruition, with now being a better time than ever to justify his [£71.6m price tag](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/12539548/kepa-arrizabalaga-chelsea-transfer-fight-jersey/).
