# Chelsea plot two huge January arrivals

[![stones](https://cdn.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/stones1-500x336.jpg)](https://cdn.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/stones1.jpg?admin)Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern haven’t had too much to be cheerful about this season but a wry smile at the bar has been noticed after reading the weekend’s tabloids.

With the Blues enduring a woeful start to the campaign, sitting 16th in the Premier League table with just eight points, *The Independent* states the board will back Jose Mourinho fully in the transfer market with a [double move for two excelling defenders.](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/chelsea-transfer-news-blues-to-back-jose-mourinho-with-january-moves-for-john-stones-and-marquinhos-a6688816.html)

Everton’s John Stones and Paris Saint-Germain’s Marquinhos are the duo in question, in a move that could [cost the defending champions in excess of £70m;](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/chelsea-transfer-news-blues-to-back-jose-mourinho-with-january-moves-for-john-stones-and-marquinhos-a6688816.html) as Chelsea failed with moves of £38m for Stones and around £30m for Marquinhos in the summer.

These arrivals would result in a major reshuffle of Chelsea’s back-line, with the aim that the Blues defence would be solidified for years to come. Stones and Marquinhos could feature in a young back-four completed by summer arrival Baba Rahman and Spanish full-back Cesar Azpilicueta.

Our punters aren’t convinced that Chelsea need both of these targets and would settle for just one of the pair.
