# Chelsea: Club-record fee needed to sign Victor Osimhen

**[Chelsea](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/chelsea-fc-news/) will need to spend a club-record amount of money on Napoli striker [Victor Osimhen](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/victor-osimhen/) if they want to sign him, according to a new transfer update.**

### The Lowdown: Osimhen unstoppable for Napoli

The Nigerian is arguably the most in-form striker in world football at the moment, as he enjoys a potentially legendary season for Serie A giants Napoli.

Osimhen has spearheaded his side’s title charge – they are [15 points clear](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/italian-serie-a/table) at the top of the table – [scoring 17 goals](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/298510/Show/Victor-Osimhen) in as many league starts in 2022/23 to date.

The 24-year-old has been [linked](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/chelsea-fc-news/chelsea-blues-desperate-to-win-the-race-for-victor-osimhen/) with a move to Chelsea recently, although they are [far from alone](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/manchester-united-premier-league-victor-osimhen-transfer-news-updates/) in expressing an interest in signing him.

### The Latest: Chelsea could have to break record

According to [*Football Insider*](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-chelsea-privately-told-it-will-take-100m-record-fee-to-lure-top-target-victor-osimhen/), the Blues ‘face a huge battle’ to acquire Osimhen’s signature this summer, with Napoli desperate to keep hold of him.

It is stated that Chelsea would need to break their transfer record in order to bring in the striker, having only recently paid an [unrivalled](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11668/12799395/enzo-fernandez-to-chelsea-blues-agree-premier-league-record-105m-transfer-deal-for-benfica-midfielder) £106.8million for Enzo Fernandez.

### The Verdict: Is he worth it?

Osimhen looks like a player who could blossom into a truly world-class player over a long-term period and he could be exactly what Chelsea are looking for.

Not dissimilar to Didier Drogba in terms of style, as Jose Mourinho has even [compared the two](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/english-premier-league/story/4865505/mourinho-makes-osimhen-drogba-comparisoncup-king-kelechi-strikes-again), the Nigeria international could be the missing piece of Graham Potter’s attacking jigsaw, solving their central strike issues.

Osimhen has been [described](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/napolis-osimhen-is-phenomenal-cagliaris-mazzarri-showers-praise-on-forward/lzeii5kj10211mt87d6u82f9b) as ‘phenomenal’ by Walter Mazzarri in the recent past, and while the amount of money demanded is eye-watering, Chelsea should spend it if the funds are available.

The African superstar has all the attributes to be a massive success in the [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/), possessing pace, power and most importantly composure in front of goal, and he should only get better with age too.
