# Chelsea: Blues showing ‘real interest’ in Wilfried Zaha

**[Chelsea](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/chelsea-fc-news/) are among the clubs to have shown a ‘real interest’ in Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha, according to an update from insider [Graeme Bailey](https://twitter.com/GraemeBailey?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor).**

### The Lowdown: Zaha a Palace legend

The 30-year-old has enjoyed a fantastic career at Selhurst Park, enduring a failed spell at Manchester United in between but otherwise flourishing.

Zaha has [scored 89 goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/wilfried-zaha/alletore/spieler/145988) in 443 appearances for Palace, as well as registering 75 assists, and he will forever now be considered a genuine Eagles legend.

It could be that the Ivorian looks for one big challenge in his career before hanging up his boots however, with his [contract](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/wilfried-zaha/profil/spieler/145988) expiring next summer, which is where Chelsea could come into play.

### The Latest: Chelsea eyeing up move

Speaking to [*TEAMtalk*](https://www.teamtalk.com/arsenal/wilfried-zaha-exclusive-arsenal-chelsea-real-interest-crystal-palace-man-champions-league-dream), Bailey claimed that the Blues and Arsenal are two clubs who have long eyed up a move for Zaha:

> “Wilfried Zaha can sign for another club within the next month, that is the reality facing Crystal Palace. Contract talks have taken place but a new deal for the 30-year-old does not look likely at this stage.
>
> “Zaha still has a dream of playing in the Champions League in his career, but that only happens with a move.
>
> “At this point the chances of staying in England look unlikely. Both Arsenal and Chelsea have shown a real interest in the past 12 months but he is not currently seen as a top priority.
>
> “However, there is interest abroad, especially in France with Marseille, Monaco and PSG all expressing an interest in the past 12 months.
>
> “There is also Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig in Germany, as well as interest from Spain and Italy.”

### The Verdict: Is it too late?

Zaha remains a fantastic player who is capable of tearing defenders apart on his day, [scoring six goals](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/85059/Show/Wilfried-Zaha) in 13 [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) appearances so far this season and being [hailed](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11330035/Pundits-heap-praise-Crystal-Palace-star-Wilfried-Zaha-comeback-against-Wolves.html) as ‘unstoppable’ by Clinton Morrison.

That being said, he is now 30 and arguably past the absolute peak of his powers, so Chelsea paying big wages for him could feel like a big risk to take.

Instead, Graham Potter may be better off signing someone in their mid-20s – a player who can be an immediate key man and remain at his best for five or six years.
