Chelsea are pushing to sign Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho as well as RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons. Garnacho is understood to be keen on the move, but United are seeking at least £40m for the player.
Garnacho has looked destined to leave Manchester United in this transfer window, after being told by Ruben Amorim in May to find a new club. Chelsea are long term admirers, having enquired about the player in last January’s window.
TalkSPORT has reported that despite Chelsea advancing in talks with RB Leipzig playmaker Xavi Simons, the club remain keen on Garnacho as cover in left wing. Though Chelsea’s squad appears to be bloated, they are remarkably short of established first team left wingers.
New man Jamie Gittens remains the only concrete left winger following the departure of loan signing Jadon Sancho. Cole Palmer, Joao Pedro, and Pedro Neto all are capable of deputizing there but are not naturally left sided attackers.
New Arsenal signing Noni Madueke spent the latter stages of last season on the left wing for Chelsea, and although he is left footed he too is not a natural left sided attacker.
Chelsea looking to add Garnacho, Simons to summer spending

The Blues have been one of the summer’s biggest spenders, and had already splashed out over £157m on new signings before their latest capture of Ajax fullback Jorrel Hato. The addition of Hato takes Chelsea’s summer outlay to over £200m, and the club look set to shell out even more cash.
The move for Garnacho is not dependent on Nicolas Jackson going the other way, with United known admirers of the striker. A swap deal between the two players has been mooted, but so far no talks have taken place between the clubs in that regard.
Garnacho’s preference is to remain in the Premier League and play in the Champions League, and is understood to have set his sights on Chelsea as his top choice for a move this summer.
He scored scored six goals and registered two assists across 36 Premier League games last season. No official bid has been launched by Chelsea for Garnacho but talks could progress in the closing weeks of the window.
Chelsea meanwhile are expected to send an opening bid to Leipzig for Xavi Simons in the coming days. Simon can operate either as a no.10 or as a winger.
