# Chelsea: Ruben Loftus-Cheek agrees new contract

**Chelsea look to have secured the long-term future of Ruben Loftus-Cheek at the club.**

[According to The Telegraph, the 23-year-old midfielder has agreed a new long-term contract that is set to run for at least five years and could be worth over £150,000-a-week](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2019/07/02/ruben-loftus-cheek-agrees-new-long-term-chelsea-contract/?li_source=LI&li_medium=li-recommendation-widget).

The report also states that new Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is eager to make Loftus-Cheek one of his key players in midfield as soon as he returns from injury. As well as that, Gareth Southgate is said to have big plans for the Chelsea academy graduate ahead of Euro 2020.

Callum Hudson-Odoi could be the next Chelsea player to commit his future to the west London club, with The Telegraph reporting that the Blues are confident they can get the 18-year-old to put pen to paper on a new five-year deal as well.

Chelsea have made a smart move here; Loftus-Cheek has offered them so much in midfield and you would surely expect him to continue doing so based on Lampard’s rumoured plans for him.

For example, the Blues did not have a better ball carrier in the middle of the park last season than the England international. In the Premier League, he averaged 1.7 dribbles per game with Mateo Kovacic the closest behind with 1.3 [(as per WhoScored)](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/15/Show/England-Chelsea).

To add some more context, in Chelsea’s squad, only Eden Hazard averaged more with [3.7](https://www.whoscored.com/Regions/252/Tournaments/2/Seasons/7361/Stages/16368/PlayerStatistics/England-Premier-League-2018-2019) — the most in the Premier League.

If Lampard is looking for someone who can collect the ball before driving through midfield, then in Loftus-Cheek, he has just that.
