[![Antoine Griezmann](https://cdn.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Antoine-Griezmann-500x348.jpg)](https://cdn.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Antoine-Griezmann.jpg?admin)Chelsea fans are jumping with joy here in the Football Transfer Tavern after seeing the news from [Metro](https://metro.co.uk/2015/04/27/chelsea-set-to-trigger-antoine-griezmann-release-clause-to-seal-43-5million-transfer-5169733/?), which claims that Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea are set to activate the release clause of Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann.

The exciting French forward has also [been a target for Manchester United](https://metro.co.uk/2015/04/22/manchester-united-line-up-transfer-of-32-5m-antoine-griezmann-5160975/), but it now seems that the Blues are going to take the front foot and complete a £43.5m deal for the 24-year-old winger.

As our landlord quips, Chelsea already have a plethora of world-class attacking options and adding another player like Griezmann, would undoubtedly make them an even more formidable team to come up against.

The 5ft 9 midfielder has amassed 22 goals for Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid side this season, and he has impressed since joining from Real Sociedad last year.

A bunch of Chelsea fans over by the jukebox here in the Transfer Tavern feel this would be a fantastic signing, however at the same time somewhat unnecessary!
