# Chelsea Spine To Team Of The Weekend

[![](https://cdn.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/johnterry-150x150.jpg)](https://cdn.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/johnterry.jpg)It was FA Cup Quarter Final time this weekend, with 8 teams battling for a place in the semi-final. Not really any major scalps were had, as Stoke were not able to dispatch Chelsea like they did with Arsenal and Man City, Villa came from behind to beat Reading, Tottenham and Fulham ground out a scoreless draw and Portsmouth put their financial problems behind them to go on a cup run and beat Birmingham. Here is my FA Cup Team of the weekend:

**GK: Gomes**

The Brazilian was responsible for keeping Spurs in the competition with a string of fine saves, especially from Damien Duff and Zoltan Gera in the second half of Saturday’s game.

**LB: Hermann Hreidarsson**

Solid and dependable, Hreidarsson was a rock in the Pompey defence, and helped Pompey shock Birmingham and set up a semi-final tie against Tottenham or Bolton.

**CB: John Terry**

Made up for his poor form of late and his personal difficulties to score the second goal for Chelsea. Spent the whole game trying to remind everyone that he was the man at Chelsea, constantly pointing to his captain’s armband after he scored his side’s second goal.

**CB: Alex**

Fantastic tackling, good positionally. No one could get past him in the Chelsea defence. A real rock at the back.

**LM: Ashley Young**

Excellent in the second half against Reading yesterday. Scored Villa’s first goal 82 seconds after the restart, leading Villa’s excellent comeback against Reading.

**CM: Frank Lampard**

Scored Chelsea’s first goal with a 25 yarder that was deflected in, and then his corner set up John Terry for Chelsea’s second goal.

**CM: Jamie O’Hara**

Was at his mercurial best in the Pompey midfield, pulling the strings and setting up Piquionne for the second goal.

**RM: Jimmy Kebe**

The Mali winger looked lively in the first half against Villa and looked determined to steal the show, before Villa stepped up and tore Reading apart in the second half. Set up Shane Long for Reading’s second goal.

**ST: John Carew**

Bagged himself a second half hat-trick against Reading, to lead Villa into the semi-final against Chelsea and capped a remarkable comeback, as Villa were down by two goals at half time yesterday.

**ST: Frederic Piquionne**

Scored two goals in three minutes in Portsmouth’s win at Birmingham. Turned Roger Johnson inside-out for the second goal before slotting home.

**ST: Shane Long**

The Reading striker scored two goals in the first half as Reading looked to shock Aston Villa. A pity that Villa’s comeback dumped Reading out of the cup.
