# Everton: Alex McLeish reacts to Anthony Gordon exit news

**[Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/12644354/alex-mcleish-andy-goram-a-wonderful-character) pundit Alex McLeish has been left reacting to some [Everton](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/everton-fc-news/) exit news that he has heard involving Anthony Gordon.**

### The Lowdown: New Chelsea bid

As per [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-chelsea-ready-50m-anthony-gordon-bid-amid-new-everton-twist/), Chelsea are ready to increase their bid for Gordon to £50m, after the Goodison Park outfit previously rejected a bid of £40m for the winger.

Should they accept, Gordon would follow Dele Alli through the exit doors at Merseyside, with the latter [set](https://twitter.com/RudyGaletti/status/1560031212546162690) to join Turkish outfit Besiktas.

### The Latest: McLeish reacts

Speaking to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/pundit-makes-horrendous-anthony-gordon-claim-after-everton-sources-update/), McLeish has given his reaction to the news, claiming that losing Gordon would be ‘horrendous’:

*“It would be a horrendous loss.*

*“It would leave Everton destitute in regards to quality young players. He is only going to get better. The question is how they spend this £50million?*

*“Who do they bring in? If Frank is given that money to spend, nowadays you are not going to get a world superstar for that kind of money*.

*“It’s a lot of money, you could get a very good English player who could steady the ship a wee bit.*

*“But you take the Anthony Gordon money, do you spend it on replacing him or one another area of the squad where you need to strengthen?*

*“We’ll wait and see if that happens and if Frank has a strategy.”*

### The Verdict: Hard to replace

In truth, Gordon would be very difficult to replace should he make the move to Stamford Bridge.

[Everton news!](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/everton-news-7/)

Last season, he only missed three Premier League games for the Toffees, scoring four goals and making two assists, while he also earned two man-of-the-match awards and ranked highly among his teammates in terms of average shots, key passes and dribbles per match ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/31/Archive/England-Everton)).

Nonetheless, given that Frank Lampard’s team still need to sign a striker after the injury to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and the sale of Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur, selling Gordon as well would leave them awfully short in attacking areas, and £50m may not be enough to bring in the adequate replacements needed in order to plug in the gaps.
