# Christiansen suffers Leeds United transfer setback – Report

**Leeds United are in the hunt for promotion this season, with Thomas Christiansen’s side kept out of the playoff places by goal difference alone.**

Defeat to Ipswich Town on Saturday afternoon however has highlighted to fans here in The Transfer Tavern however that further changes to the squad are needed this month, with a striker the top item on the agenda over the course of the next couple of weeks. However over a lunchtime pint between our landlord and fans, news broke of an update on Leeds’ pursuit of Derby County forward Chris Martin, with [*Football Insider* reporting](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-leeds-hopes-signing-proven-performer-promotion-rivals/) that the Whites’ hopes of signing the experienced Scot are over.

Christiansen had hoped to sign up Martin on a loan deal until the end of the season, however [*Football Insider* has suggested](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-leeds-hopes-signing-proven-performer-promotion-rivals/) that Derby have rejected an approach as they consider Leeds a direct promotion rival, and will therefore not deal with a direct rival this month.

**Landlord’s Verdict:** News of Martin’s unavailability will come as a blow to Christiansen and Leeds fans, who are in desperate need of a frontman to find the back of the net on a regular basis over the course of the second half of the campaign.

The Leeds squad has lacked a prolific goalscorer following Chris Wood’s departure to Burnley in August, and summer signings including Pawel Cibicki and Jay-Roy Grot have struggled to adapt to the demands of English football. Christiansen must now pursue other options, with this deal seemingly dead in the water.

**Leeds fans, let us know your thoughts!**
