Coventry Telegraph writer Tom Leach has given his insight into the transfer reports linking AS Monaco defender Jonathan Panzo with a move to Coventry City.
Valued at £2.4m by Transfermarkt, Panzo has become a much wanted player this summer after returning to parent club Monaco from a season long loan with Belgian club Cercle Brugge.
Coventry’s interest in the 19-year-old has been followed by a whole host of clubs keen on the defender, with Bundesliga duo Werder Bremen and Borussia Monchengladbach eyeing up a move.
Despite a summer transfer being discussed in various media outlets, Monaco’s change in manager of late has also seen the youngster potentially have a future with the Ligue 1 giants.
Answering questions from Coventry City fans via Coventry Telegraph, writer Leach gave his thoughts on the potential of Panzo joining the Sky Blues, suggesting they are in a good position to sign him given they are now a Championship club.
“Reports in Germany today suggesting that there are a few clubs over there keen on him. If I am honest, I would imagine Monaco have had calls from just about every corner of the globe asking about his services.
“It does seem they want him away. The reports of Coventry’s interest came from a supposed enquiry about his availability and if a loan move would be possible.
“We’re in an attractive league now, especially for young players who want Premier League moves.
“Look at Ben White, Dan James and many other over the year who have shown what they’re about in the Championship and will now have long Premier League careers.”
Sky Blues boss Robins has already made wholesale changes to his side after gaining promotion from League One to the Championship.
Panzo would be a great addition to Coventry, indeed he has represented England at all levels from under-16’s to under-21’s and was part of the under-17 World Cup winning team.
But it does seem like the youngster is going to have a number of offers this summer from across European football.
Robins has made superb improvements to his side already this summer and if he can add Panzo, then Coventry would be more than ready for the 2020/21 season.
