The Athletic journalist Gregg Evans has claimed that Aston Villa midfielder Callum O’Hare will leave the club at the end of the month, handing Coventry City the advantage in their hope to sign him.
The young Villa academy graduate will see his current contract come to an end at Villa Park this summer, having spent the last 12 months on loan with Mark Robins’ Sky Blues. He played a significant part of Coventry’s promotion from League One to the Championship, netting an impressive four goals and gaining six assists.
With the deadline of June 30 now fast approaching, Villa were said to have offered the young midfielder a new deal, only for O’Hare to reject new terms.
The claim by Evans over the future of O’Hare will hand Coventry boss Robins a huge advantage in his bid to bring the midfielder back to the club.
The report of a contract offer from the Sky Blues for O’Hare comes after the English Football League confirmed that clubs could make moves to sign players after the coronavirus pandemic pushed back a deadline for clubs to offer deals to players currently at rival teams.
It is now fully expected that the youngster could complete a permanent move to Coventry as early as next week.
This is great news for Coventry as they look to build a side capable of staying in the Championship, but it will hand Villa fans a real kick in the teeth.
With Villa looking likely to suffer relegation from the Premier League as it stands, it could happen that O’Hare comes up against his former club next season in the second tier if he can clinch a permanent move to Coventry.
