# Everton: Viktor Gyokeres ‘on the radar’ ahead of January

**[Transfer expert Dean Jones](https://twitter.com/DeanJonesSoccer) has shared that [Everton](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/everton-fc-news/) have Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres ‘on the radar’ ahead of the January transfer window.**

### The Lowdown: Summer interest

It was [reported](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/everton-fc-news/coventry-transfer-news-gyokeres-premier-league/) in the summer that the Goodison Park outfit were interested in a move for Gyokeres, and Kevin Thelwell was tracking his progress at Coventry as Frank Lampard searched for a new striker.

However, a deal never materialised, and they ended up signing Neal Maupay from Brighton and Hove Albion instead.

The Frenchman has not been as prolific as they would have hoped, with just [one goal in 11 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/neal-maupay/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/217115/plus/0?saison=&verein=29&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) in total over all competitions, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin has continued to struggle with [injury problems](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dominic-calvert-lewin/verletzungen/spieler/306024).

Thus, given their [precarious position](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) in the Premier League table, another striker may ben needed in January in order to help them steer clear of the relegation zone.

### The Latest: Gyokeres ‘on the radar’

Speaking to [GiveMeSport](https://www.givemesport.com/88094127-everton-transfer-news-viktor-gyokeres-coventry-frank-lampard-goodison-park), Jones has shared that Gyokeres is still ‘on the radar’ of the Merseyside club, and could be a deal to ‘look out’ for in January:

*“There* *are a few others, though, even of the same sort of level that Everton are looking at as unfulfilled potential.*

*“I know that the lad at Coventry, Gyokeres, is somebody that they’ve got on the radar too. So, there’s something to look out for there.”*

### The Verdict: Worth a shot

Given the Toffees’ lack of potency up top, which has seen them score just [11 goals in 15 matches](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) in the top flight, signing Gyokeres in January could be worth a shot.

Lauded as having ‘[unbelievable](https://www.coventrytelegraph.net/sport/football/football-news/coventry-city-transfers-viktor-gyokeres-24634767)‘ ability by Coventry manager Mark Robins, the six-foot-two Swede has [nine](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/viktor-gyokeres/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/325443/plus/0?saison=2022&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=GB2&pos=&trainer_id=) goals in the Championship so far this season, and won the division’s [Player of the Month (POTM) award for November](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12762505/coventry-duo-viktor-gyokeres-and-mark-robins-win-sky-bet-championship-november-awards).

That is added to the [17](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/viktor-gyokeres/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/325443/plus/0?saison=2021&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=GB2&pos=&trainer_id=) that Gyokeres managed last term, and the 24-year-old is clearly ready to make the step up to the Premier League.

If the Blues can come up with a suitable transfer fee, then this is a deal that is probably worth doing in January.
