# Crystal Palace: Eagles eye Nathan Ferguson

**Crystal Palace are set to target West Brom defender Nathan Ferguson as a replacement for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, reports suggest.**

The [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7581765/Crystal-Palace-eye-West-Broms-19-year-old-Nathan-Ferguson.html) have suggested that the Eagles want to go after the 19-year-old in the January transfer window.

The England U20 international can play anywhere along the backline but has been playing in either full-back position for West Brom this season.

Given that Roy Hodgson has only one established left-back in the squad (according to [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/crystal-palace/kader/verein/873/saison_id/2019)), Nathan Ferguson could fit the bill perfectly at Selhurst Park.

Thankfully for Palace, both Patrick van Aanholt and Joel Ward have managed to stay injury-free this season, however, if an injury were to arise, it could cause players to play slightly out of position. With the insurance of Nathan Ferguson, the club could have a youngster who is comfortable on either side of the field, filling in if an injury comes about or if either needs a rest.

He’s had a great season so far. Playing 10 games out of a potential 11, he has averaged a score on WhoScored of [7.03/10](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/349891/Show/Nathan-Ferguson) from his performances – [higher](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/162/Show/England-Crystal-Palace) than either Joel Ward or Patrick van Aanholt.

Crystal Palace could be onto a winner here if they invest in the youngster. With Joel Ward and Patrick van Aanholt extremely comfortable in their positions at the moment – due to a lack of competition – they will be playing with the added pressure of keeping their first-team place.

It is also no secret that Palace have a really old squad. According to Transfermarkt, they have the second oldest squad in the division, with the average age being [28.8](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/crystal-palace/kader/verein/873/saison_id/2019). In Palace’s last match against West Ham, the youngest starters in their squad was Jeff Schlupp and Wilfried Zaha, who will both turn 27 in 2019. Ferguson would add some much-needed fresh legs into that Palace squad, as well as give Hodgson another option in two positions.
