The central midfielder [rejected](https://theathletic.com/2733312/2021/07/27/will-hughes-demoted-to-watfords-under-23s-as-contract-stand-off-continues/) a new five-year deal at Watford earlier in the summer and was training with the club’s [Under-23’s](https://theathletic.com/2733312/2021/07/27/will-hughes-demoted-to-watfords-under-23s-as-contract-stand-off-continues/) as his future was up in the air.

Hughes, who can also operate on [either flank](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/will-hughes/leistungsdaten/spieler/207014), has over [300](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/will-hughes/leistungsdaten/spieler/207014) games of senior football under his belt, with [77](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/will-hughes/leistungsdaten/spieler/207014) of his appearances coming in the Premier League.
