Lucien Favre appeared to be the man who would become Roy Hodgson’s long-term successor.

The former Borussia Dortmund manager [agreed to take over at Selhurst Park on Wednesday](https://theathletic.com/news/lucien-favre-crystal-palace/E0johjwEWgGU) and was waiting on a work permit before finalising a move to London.

However, 24 hours on, Favre had second thoughts and [informed the club he no longer wants the job](https://theathletic.com/2668642/2021/06/24/lucien-favre-pulls-out-of-crystal-palace-talks/?source=emp-shared-article). Steve Parish and co now appear to be back to square one when it comes to appointing a new boss, with the new season creeping closer.
