# Crystal Palace: Fans fume at Gary Cahill following Everton defeat in Merseyside misery

**Plenty of Crystal Palace fans criticised defender Gary Cahill following his side’s [3-1](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51337005) defeat against Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday.**

The 34-year-old has been [praised](https://twitter.com/CPFC/status/1180060152969469952?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1180062764703899648&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.footballfancast.com%2Fpremier-league%2Fcrystal-palace%2Fcrystal-palaces-gary-cahill-sends-a-message-after-winning-clubs-player-of-the-month) throughout his short spell at Selhurst Park but did not impress on Merseyside after being at fault for the Toffees’ second goal. Goals for Bernard, Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin put the nail in Palace’s miserable afternoon, with Christian Benteke scoring what turned out to be a consolation goal.

Cahill has certainly had better days at the office and found himself on the wrong side of his individual battles. He won just one ground duel out of six attempted, won just five headers out of 11, committed four fouls and did not make a single interception or tackle during the 90 minutes, as per [Sofascore](https://www.sofascore.com/crystal-palace-everton/hY). Supporters were livid with Cahill’s outing and made their feelings clear on social media.

> Cahill has had a shocker today. PvA & Luka are complete myths. McCarthy is pony. Wilf doesn’t want to be here. We are in so much trouble – Roy’s stubbornness & that appalling January transfer window will come back to haunt us. [#cpfc](https://twitter.com/hashtag/cpfc?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

> Awful awful awful defending again. Just given it away again. Was all over the place that is so poor from Tomkins and Cahill [#cpfc](https://twitter.com/hashtag/cpfc?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

> But poor from Cahill. Whatever you do, make sure he doesn’t get onto his stronger side. He commits and makes it way too easy.

> Defensively disappointing today – usually the focus of criticism is at the other end. Why was Cahill out of position goal 1? Why can’t a player of Cahill’s experience not show Rich. down the line? Why can’t Cahill stay with his man at a corner? Both full backs poor today, Harsh?

> Poor from Cahill. Needs to show him wide on his left foot
