# Crystal Palace: Fans react as Dwight Gayle is linked to the club

**Many Crystal Palace fans are reacting to the latest transfer rumours which are suggesting that Dwight Gayle could make a surprising return to Selhurst Park.**

According to [The Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/) and as tweeted out by [@cpfc\_xtra](https://twitter.com/cpfc_xtra/status/1348225048943996929?s=20), Gayle would be keen on returning to the Eagles – if offered the chance – when his Newcastle United contract expires in the summer. One Palace fan said: ‘I would love this to happen’.

Gayle shone in his debut campaign for Palace in the Premier League scoring seven goals in 23 appearances, ([Transfermarkt).](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dwight-gayle/transfers/spieler/196522) These goals were crucial in helping them stay in the top flight, something which they had never done before, ([Premier League)](https://www.premierleague.com/clubs/6/Crystal-Palace/overview).

His decent goal scoring record would continue at the club as he would eventually score 25 goals in 75 appearances ([Transfermarkt)](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dwight-gayle/transfers/spieler/196522). To get a goal once every three games was good return for a striker who was in a side battling for survival, especially considering that he had never previously played at that level.

In his whole career, he has managed 103 goals ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dwight-gayle/transfers/spieler/196522)) and with Michy Batshuayi [returning](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/michy-batshuayi/profil/spieler/179184) to Chelsea at the end of the season, some attacking squad depth could be good.
