Retiring at the age of 37-years-old \[[OTB Sports](https://www.otbsports.com/sport/damien-delaney-retires-football-878888#:~:text=Former%20Republic%20of%20Ireland%20defender,need%20to%20play%20to%20develop.)\], the Irishman undoubtedly holds a special place in the heart of many Crystal Palace supporters due to his contribution at Selhurst Park.

Most notably, his crucial role in the 2012/13 season when his ex-employers gained promotion from the play-offs will always be remembered, keeping a clean sheet in a 1-0 defeat of Watford \[[The Guardian](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2013/may/27/crystal-palace-promoted-premier-league-kevin-phillips)\].

Now celebrating his 40th birthday today, no wonder loads of Crystal Palace diehards took to Twitter to give him their best wishes.
