# Crystal Palace: Fans react to Maitland-Niles links

**Crystal Palace have made enquiries to Arsenal over a potential deal for Ainsley Maitland-Niles, according to [Arsenal’s chief Football London reporter Chris Wheatley](https://twitter.com/ChrisWheatley_/status/1402546689840398338).**

And, as to be expected, a number of Eagles fans have been sharing their thoughts on the transfer update on social media.

Palace are still on the hunt for Roy Hodgson’s long-term successor after a deal for former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo [fell through on Tuesday evening](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9667531/Crystal-Palace-END-talks-Nuno-Espirito-Santo-new-manager.html).

So, with no first-team boss in place, you’d expect sporting director Dougie Freedman would be at the heart of Palace’s enquiry for Maitland-Niles ahead of the 2021/22 season.

The 23-year-old, who is capable of playing all over the park, spent the second half of the 2020/21 campaign on loan at West Brom. He made [15](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ainsley-maitland-niles/leistungsdaten/spieler/285845) appearances for the Baggies but couldn’t prevent relegation back to the Championship.

Maitland-Niles, who is valued at [£14.4m by Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ainsley-maitland-niles/profil/spieler/285845), still has [two years left on his Emirates deal](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ainsley-maitland-niles/profil/spieler/285845), worth [£35,000-a-week](https://www.spotrac.com/epl/arsenal-fc/ainsley-maitland-niles-24373/).
