# Crystal Palace: Fans react to update on Patrick van Aanholt’s contract talks

**Many Crystal Palace fans are reacting to the latest reports that suggest one of their key players has hit a stalemate in contract negotiations.**

[Talks](https://twitter.com/cpfc_xtra/status/1329417271631024133?s=20) with defender Patrick van Aanholt over a new deal are [facing collapse](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-crystal-palace-contract-talks-face-collapse-star-to-be-offered-jan-deal-by-rivals/). There is interest from one ‘elite club’ in securing the Holland international to a pre-contract in January.

Van Aanholt does provide a lot for the South London side offensively as the left-back, has scored [14](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/patrick-van-aanholt/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/52119/verein/873) goals and picked up [five](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/patrick-van-aanholt/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/52119/verein/873) assists whilst at the club.

However, Tyrick Mitchell is now starting to become a [fan favourite](https://readcrystalpalace.com/2020/10/30/love-this-kid-fans-react-to-tyrick-mitchell-documentary/) for his defensive work. The 21-year old managed on average 2.3 clearances and four tackles a game this term ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/389579/Show/Tyrick-Mitchell)). He has made [24](https://eurofootballrumours.com/top-50-best-tacklers-ranked-by-most-tackles-in-the-premier-league-season-2020-21-03-11-2020-21429/) tackles in total, which is the [joint-fourth](https://eurofootballrumours.com/top-50-best-tacklers-ranked-by-most-tackles-in-the-premier-league-season-2020-21-03-11-2020-21429/) most in the league, so perhaps van Aanholt’s departure wouldn’t be a disaster on the pitch, but losing him for nothing certainly would be one off it.

The reaction from the fan base has been mixed – some are frustrated that the club let the Dutchman’s contract go into its last year, while others aren’t too worried due to the emergence of Mitchell.

### Here is how Palace fans reacted to the news

> It’s a tough one because I think Pat is a great fit here, but at 30 and the emergence of Tyrick – it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world.

> If we can resign him without increasing his wage it would be a good deal. Takes the pressure off TMs progression too.

> That’s what happens when you let players contracts run into their final year. If they were that keen on keeping him, they should have sorted this last season.

> Mitchell will develop a better attacking presence! In regards to defending he’s as good as PVA if not better!
