# Crystal Palace: Fans respond to old rumour linking Jamie Vardy to the club

**Steve Parish would have regretted missing out on a few players in his time at the club – but there can’t be many as frustrating as Jamie Vardy.**

The former England striker is currently top of the Premier League goal charts with [10 from 11](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/106981/Show/Jamie-Vardy) at the ripe age of 32.

In the summer of 2012, he joined Leicester City for a fee of just [£1.12m](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jamie-vardy/transfers/spieler/197838), but he was linked to Selhurst Park six months prior within this [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2090861/Crystal-Palace-set-sign-Jamie-Vardy.html) article, saying that he was set to join Dougie Freedman’s Palace for £750k while going back on loan to Fleetwood for the rest of the season.

With Vardy now being at the King Power for nearly eight years, he is undoubtedly a club legend. His 282 games for Leicester have seen him score a mammoth [117 goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jamie-vardy/leistungsdaten/spieler/197838/plus/0?saison=ges), while also assisting 46. He is just [10 short](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jamie-vardy/leistungsdaten/spieler/197838/plus/0?saison=ges) of reaching the illustrious 100 club in the Premier League – hugely impressive considering he made his Premier League debut aged 27.

A Palace fan on Twitter, @[workbycharles,](https://twitter.com/workbycharles) found the story and posted it on Twitter, to which many fans responded wondering what could have been.
