Crystal Palace have confirmed that youngster Asher Agbinone has signed professional terms at Selhurst Park.

The Lowdown: Academy additions

The Eagles officially opened their new £20m academy redevelopment last year and have brought in a number of exciting young players since then.

Striker Luke Plange arrived from Derby County back in January, whereas winger Malcolm Ebiowei arrived from the same side in the summer.

Three players also joined the U21 ranks in recent months, including centre-back Kofi Balmer from Northern Irish side Larne, and the club have now sealed an in-house agreement for another young talent.

The Latest: Agbinone deal

Palace shared an update on their official club website regarding Agbinone on Monday.

They revealed that the 17-year-old has signed a professional contract with the club, with U18s manager Rob Quinn describing Agbinone as ‘a skilful forward who can cause a lot of problems for defenders’.

The Verdict: Future star?

Agbinone has been plying his trade for the U18s, so the next step could be for the forward to become a regular in the U21s.

It seems as if Palace rate the player highly to secure his services to a professional contract, so the club may well have a future star on their hands.

It will be interesting to see how Agbinone continues to develop over the coming years after signing this deal, and who knows, he could catch Patrick Vieira’s eye and earn himself some minutes in the domestic cups before too long.
