Crystal Palace have failed to score in their last two games, against Newcastle and Burnley, but reports suggest they are set to extend the stay of one of their misfiring front men.
The latest reports on Christian Benteke
According to the Evening Standard, Benteke has been offered a contract extension by the South London Side as they enter talks with multiple players.
It appears as though Roy Hodgson will have to solve his side’s goalscoring woes internally, rather than splashing the cash in the transfer market.
The 6 foot 3 beast scored 17 goals in his first season for the Eagles (Transfermarkt), but has struggled ever since and only managed six goals in the following three campaigns.
He has received a lot of praise when playing to his full potential though, notably from former Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert, who said: “Benteke has been colossal for us, he’s been unplayable in certain games.”
However, he provides something which the other attackers don’t and keeping him on for another season gives the manager a unique option – a player of that size and aerial ability is indeed ‘unplayable’ for most defenders when in form.
