Some Crystal Palace fans have been hammering the display of Cheikhou Kouyate in the 3-0 loss to Aston Villa at the Premier League.
There were not many positives to come out of the game from Roy Hodgson’s team in general, given that Aston Villa actually went down to 10 men at the end of the first half when Tyrone Mings was given a second yellow card for a challenge on Wilfried Zaha.
Should Kouyate start for Crystal Palace?
The Eagles were only 1-0 down at half time as well, but ended up conceding two more goals in the second half to a side that played with one less player on the field.
Kouyate did not have the best of games as a central defender, losing possession of the ball no fewer than eight times, while he also lost out on six of his duels, earning him a quite measly 6.3 overall rating on Sofascore, one of the lowest out of any of his teammates to have set foot on the pitch.
Crystal Palace fan reaction to Kouyate display
These members of the Selhurst Park faithful hammered the performance of Kouyate on Twitter, with one CPFC supporter even labelling him as a ‘joke’ in the heart of the Eagles defence:
“Get PVA glue, Luka and Kouyate far far far away from that starting line up”
“They aren’t, all too slow, and past it.”
“I think Sakho is injured, given Dann and Kouyate are useless it only left Kelly with Tomkins. Although I’m not a fan of Sakho these days if he is fit I’d play him. Him and Tomkins together before we’re great. At least Schlupp on the left in a 442 would protect PVA”
“This is no way his fault. We were attacking and Bambi on ice (Kouyate) deciding to left foot volley it when he had loads of time to bring it down. Got hit on the counter but that picture shows we had a lot back. Hodgson tactics of defend the box rather than the man is the issue”
“Kouyate in defence is a joke, players just not closing down in defence”
“2nd half we allowed both fb’s to push on, but covered them with Dann, Kouyate, Macca and Luka. No pace, mobility or technique.”
