Many Crystal Palace fans were not happy as the South London side lost 1-0 to Burnley in the Premier League on Monday night. The team did not look at their best and a lot of the fan base were fuming at Andros Townsend following the match.
The winger needed to be at his best due to the fact that talisman Wilfried Zaha was unavailable to play after testing positive for COVID-19 but the match did not go the Englishman’s way as he only had one shot on target and lost possession 26 times (SofaScore). The result saw the South London side drop to eleventh in the division.
The 29-year-old had a good start to the season, picking up one goal and two assists in his first three games (Transfermarkt). However, since then, he has failed to register a single goal-contribution and he is starting to mirror the form which saw him get dropped last season.
With Newcastle up next for the Eagles on Friday night, Townsend and the rest of squad will have to perform much better to make sure they move further away from the relegation zone.
Here is what Palace fans had to say about Townsend:
Townsend been woeful

Townsend has been the worst player on the pitch.

Townsend needs his contract terminated immediately

So many issues with that performance. Again not creating enough, & can’t take the chances we do create. Benteke hopeless. Ayew wasn’t much better. Batshuayi a different player when he’s with Belgium. Townsend with so many wasted passes/crosses.
Bright side, Eze is class 👑 #cpfc

Absolute garbage Palace. Didn’t even look bothered. Townsend awful. Benteke, well what’s the point. #CPFC

Please take Townsend off, he’s playing aimlessly, and so predictable. #cpfc
