Many Crystal Palace fans took aim at Jack Butland during their Premier League clash with Southampton on Wednesday night.

Prior to this game, Butland's only competitive action under Patrick Vieira had come in an EFL Cup defeat to Watford back in August.

He'd been on the bench for every league game, playing second fiddle to Vicente Guaita.

But Vieira opted to bench the Spaniard against the Saints at Selhurst Park, finally handing Butland a chance to impress.

Butland struggles vs Southampton

The Englishman's SofaScore rating of 6.2 was the joint-lowest in the Palace starting XI.

Only five of the 14 long passes he attempted during the game were accurate, while he conceded as many goals as he made saves (two).

What's more, London News Online journalist Richard Cawley noted that Butland touched the James Ward-Prowse free-kick that made it 1-1 - as good as the strike was, you expect to save it when you get a hand to it.

Here's what Palace fans on Twitter made of the 'keeper's display.
