Crystal Palace: Eagles ‘in talks’ to sign Kofi Balmer -Crystal Palace News

Crystal Palace are reportedly ‘in talks’ to sign Larne FC defender Kofi Balmer this summer, according to Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph

The lowdown: Talent factory

The Eagles have developed a habit of signing some of the most prodigious young talents in recent years, adding the likes of Malcolm Ebiowei, Michael Olise and Nathan Ferguson to the Selhurst Park ranks.

Many of the recent additions have already made an impact on the Palace first team as Patrick Vieira hands opportunities to those signed by Steve Parish and Dougie Freedman.

Now, the southeast Londoners could be targeting their next hot prospect capture as 21-year-old Northern Ireland youth international Balmer appears to be on the radar…

The latest: ‘In talks…’

Taking to Twitter, Joseph – who works for Sky Sports – has claimed that Palace have opened negotiations with Larne regarding the 11-cap Under 21 starlet.

He stated: “Crystal Palace are in talks with Larne FC over a potential deal for defender Kofi Balmer. It’s understood that the clubs are still to agree a fee for the 21-year-old centre-back. The Northern Ireland U21 international has two years left on his contract at Larne.”

The verdict: Track record

Albeit any signing comes with an element of risk, particularly when it comes to snapping up younger talents, the deals to bring such players as Eberechi Eze and Marc Guéhi to the club have proven to be so successful that trust is required when it comes to recruitment.

Palace fans, do you remember who scored your first goal of the season?

Having already amassed 134 senior outings despite his tender years, the impressive central defender made 41 appearances across all competitions for Larne last season and appeared as both a left-back and a right-back, highlighting impressive versatility that would be a welcome addition to Vieira’s options.

Ultimately, signing the 6-foot-tall former Ballymena United prospect – who was hailed as ‘dominant‘ for an ‘absolutely outstanding’ performance in the 1-1 draw against Linfield by journalist Josh Bunting in October 2021 – would be a smart piece of business from the Eagles.
