Crystal Palace signing Chelsea youngster Levi Colwill this summer would be a significant piece of business, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The 19-year-old centre-back is an exciting young talent who thrived on loan at Huddersfield Town last season, making 31 appearances in the Championship and helping the Terriers reach the playoff final.

Colwill has recently been linked with a summer move to Palace, as Patrick Vieira looks to continue strengthening his pool of impressive young talent ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Chelsea man's current deal doesn't expire until 2025 but he would be yet another exciting youngster to join the ranks if they can get it done, alongside incoming signing Chris Richards.

The Latest: Journalist talks up move

Speaking to Transfer Tavern, O'Rourke talked up Palace signing Colwill, saying he would be an extremely big coup:

"Yeah, it could be a huge coup (for Palace) because there's a lot of clubs interested in Levi Colwell. He had a great season on loan at Huddersfield last year and really enhanced his potential with that loan move.
"He looks a top player and I think a real future England player in the making."

The Verdict: One for the present and future

At 19, Colwill may not come in as an immediate regular for Palace, especially with Marc Guehi and Joachim Anderson performing so well at centre-back last season.

Colwill would represent a promising long-term signing, however, having been lauded as a 'Rolls Royce' of a player by Anton Ferdinand in the past, also averaging a whopping 4.3 clearances per game in the league for Huddersfield.

Snapping up Colwill would feel like a real coup for Palace, as O'Rourke alludes to, and it would show that Vieira is planning well into the future, something which has been evident during the Frenchman's tenure so far..
