Crystal Palace are hopeful that Michael Olise's foot problem is 'nothing serious', London World's Rahman Osman has reported.

The lowdown

The Eagles attacker was called up to the France under-21 squad for the first time this month and he made his debut at that level as a substitute in a win over the Faroe Islands last Thursday.

However, he will play no part in the friendly against Northern Ireland on Monday after 'inflammation' in his foot forced him to withdraw from the squad. Olise reportedly pulled out of a training session on Sunday morning after feeling discomfort.

The latest

Sharing news from London World that Olise had returned to south London following the injury scare, Osman took to Twitter to give an update on the 20-year-old's situation.

He revealed: "Palace looking to run further test on Olise. All parties hoping for nothing serious on his foot. Fingers crossed."

The verdict

Just how big a blow would it be to Patrick Vieira and Palace if Olise faces a spell on the sidelines?

The 20-year-old is the Eagles' leading assists provider by a distance, having set up eight goals this season, three clear of his nearest challenger Conor Gallagher, so they would probably find it considerably more difficult to create chances in the young Frenchman's absence.

Olise also contributes plenty off the ball, ranking in the 70th percentile or better (among positional peers in the top five leagues) for pressures, tackles, blocks and clearances.

Therefore, Vieira will anxiously be awaiting further news ahead of the clash with Arsenal next Monday night, as will the Palace fan base.
