Crystal Palace face Leeds this weekend and with both teams on ten points, the fixture could push either into a great position. Roy Hodgson provided an injury update on Tyrick Mitchell ahead of the fixtures.
Hodgson’s injury update on the Palace defender
Hodgson said: ‘Joel Ward, Tyrick Mitchell and unfortunately James Tomkins are not available for this weekend.’
How big a blow is this for Palace?
However Mitchell was starting to become a fan favourite for his defensive work. The 21-year old managed on average 2.3 clearances and four tackles a game this term (WhoScored). He has made 24 tackles in total, which is the joint-fourth most in the League.
With Leeds already scoring 13 goals in seven games this season, the Eagles defence will have to be at its best and the absence of the young full-back will be a big blow.
Palace Journalist Matt Woosnam wrote an article on the player recently, calling him CPFC’s ‘silent assassin’ with the ‘eye of the tiger’.
Mitchell has a lot of fan support already at such a young age, and regardless of Van Aanholt’s return it is certainly a blow to lose a player bringing such a positive impact.
