Most transfer windows for those associated with Crystal Palace are stressful ones, with talisman Wilfried Zaha always linked with a move away, and Roy Hodgson has recently spoken about his future.
What Hodgson had to say about Zaha
Hodgson was asked whether he felt Zaha could finish his career at Palace, and he told the Daily Mail: “I would think he still has a lot of ambition. This was a very unusual transfer window, there wasn’t much going on and certainly weren’t many, if any, big-money moves. A lot of the transfers were loans with a view to buy.
“I think when the market opens up again Wilf Zaha will again be a name on many managers and sporting directors’ lips and Wilf will retain his ambition of playing Champions League football and doing things we have not been able to give him while he has been playing here.
“But I am hoping and believing also that the club will still be trying to persuade him that what he needs to get out of football he can get here and how that will pan out? I couldn’t say. He is good enough to play at other clubs, but also he is a player we would really like to keep here because he has been so important for us and he is very important to all the fans and everyone around the club.”
It will be very hard to keep Zaha
There is no doubting the quality of the Ivorian, and he is in the form of his life as he has managed nine goals and two assists in his 19 Premier League appearances this campaign.
Roy Hodgson has praised Zaha a lot this season, hailing him as ‘excellent‘ after a victory against Fulham back in October. He drooled over the display against the Cottagers in which Zaha scored the decisive second goal in a 2-1 win.
It may soon be impossible to keep the winger happy at Palace as he has stated his desire to push himself at the highest level. Sadly for supporters, the South London side is not the highest level that Zaha could play at, and this is proven by the calibre of sides who appear to be interested in him. If Zaha continues scoring this season, then it may become almost impossible to stop him leaving in the summer.
