Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson was full of praise for midfielder James McArthur following his performance in the win against Sheffield United.
What Hodgson had to say about McArthur
Journalist Matt Woosnam spoke to the Palace manager after the game. The Athletic writer tweeted: “Hodgson describes James McArthur as “one of the unsung heroes” of #CPFC”
The midfielder is key to Palace
The 3- year-old is a key asset in the South London side under Hodgson. The Scotsman is highly regarded by fans of the Eagles, and it is easy to see why as he is still performing at a very high level. The central midfielder has averaged 3.1 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 1.5 clearances per game this season, (WhoScored).
Despite his age, he still valued at £3.15 million by Transfermarkt, and he truly has been a great servant for the club as he has picked up 19 goals and 19 assists in his 223 appearances.
The game against the Blades emphasised why Hodgson called him an unsung hero. Despite Eberechi Eze being highly praised following his lovely solo goal, it was the Scotsman who was key to the victory.
He picked up an 8.0 rating (SofaScore), this was the best rating on the pitch. The midfielder was excellent in both attack and defence. He got an assist, made two key passes and completed both of his successful dribble attempts. McArthur also won ten of his twelve ground duels and made eight tackles.
Despite the age of the midfielder, his performance emphasised exactly why the club still need him and proved that it could be very hard to replace him in the future.
