Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson spoke to the media ahead of their upcoming Premier League match. He has provided a quick 13-word injury update on Mamadou Sakho.
The latest on Sakho
The Frenchman started the match against Wolves in the FA Cup last Friday, but had to be substituted at half time (SofaScore). In his press conference ahead of the match against Arsenal, Hodgson said: ‘Sakho is still being looked at to see how bad the injury is.’
This is a blow for Palace
The 30 year-old has suffered a fair few injuries whilst at the club. They have seen him miss at least 375 days of football since he joined the Eagles (Transfermarkt). However, he has been a key player for the club when fit, especially in the 2017/18 campaign. It was arguably his best spell of his career as he managed 1.1 tackles, 1.6 interceptions, and 5.2 clearances a game (WhoScored).
This new update from Hodgson combined with the number of injuries he has picked up and the fact that he is now 30 is a big blow for the club. It emphasises that the Eagles might have already seen the best from Sakho and maybe even the last of the defender. His contract is due to expire in the summer and with these issues it is very unlikely that the club will want to offer him an extension.
