Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has provided an update on defender Gary Cahill and it was a very positive news update for both the player and his manager.
The latest on Cahill
The veteran defender suffered an injury over the Christmas period and hee hasn’t been seen since December 19th, (Transfermarkt). However, his press conference ahead of the match against Arsenal, Hodgson said: ‘Cahill is fit to play.’
This is great news for Palace
The defender has made 4.4 clearances per game this season (WhoScored), showing his safety first attitude around the box. The former Chelsea star is 35, but has an abundance of experience, and is still a vital asset for the club.
His quality and experience could definitely be valuable for the club as they face off against Arsenal, whilst Cahill returning from injury also provides the club with some good depth in the centre of defence.
Mamadou Sakho has suffered another injury, and James Tomkins has only recently returned from one of his own, so getting Cahill back playing regularly will come as a huge boost to Hodgson as the games come thick and fast.
Palace have already used plenty of different centre-back pairings this season, Hodgson will now be hoping to keep his players fit so he can get some consistency at the back.
