Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish sardonically stated that Chelsea midfielder Jorginho 'broke the world record' for fouls without a booking in Saturday's Premier League clash between the two teams.

The lowdown

The Eagles lost 2-1 to their London rivals at Selhurst Park this afternoon after Conor Gallagher's goal in the final minute of normal time.

Odsonne Edouard had put Patrick Vieira's side in front early on before Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang equalised, and then the English midfielder broke the hearts of his former club following his 2021/22 loan spell in SE25.

Jorginho started in midfield for Chelsea but only completed 56 minutes before he was substituted due to injury.

The latest

Responding to a supporter who claimed that Edouard was lucky to still be on the pitch after fouling Kepa Arrizabalaga whilst on a yellow card, Parish expressed his dismay.

The Palace chairman felt that Jorginho was very lucky to avoid a caution earlier in the match, tweeting in reply: "You can’t be serious - Jorginho literally broke the world record of amount of fouls committed before getting a yellow."

The verdict

Do Parish's claims stack up?

The statistics show that Jorginho only committed two fouls during his time on the pitch, but perhaps the Eagles chairman feels that there were certain challenges which ought to have been penalised by referee Chris Kavanagh but weren't.

It's possible that the 57-year-old let his frustration get the better of him after Palace lost the game in such gut-wrenching circumstances.

Indeed, Parish had already voiced his anguish at the decision not to send off Thiago Silva for the supposed denial of a goalscoring opportunity. The incident was subject to a VAR check, but the Brazilian defender escaped without punishment.

All in all, it was a rather galling afternoon for anyone of a Crystal Palace persuasion.
