# Crystal Palace: Roy Hodgson confirms Tyrick Mitchell is still injured

**Crystal Palace face Leeds this weekend and with both teams on [ten points](https://www.sofascore.com/tournament/football/england/premier-league/17), the fixture could push either into a great position. Roy Hodgson provided an injury update on Tyrick Mitchell ahead of the fixtures.**

### Hodgson’s injury update on the Palace defender

Mitchell has filled in for Patrick Van Aanholt whilst he was [injured](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/patrick-van-aanholt/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/52119/verein/873), but with the Dutchman returning, the Englishman had an [injury](https://www.football.london/crystal-palace-fc/tyrick-mitchell-palace-injury-news-19187240) of his own which kept him out of the Wolves fixture.

Hodgson [said:](https://twitter.com/CPFC/status/1324705983650795521?s=20) ‘Joel Ward, Tyrick Mitchell and unfortunately James Tomkins are not available for this weekend.’

### How big a blow is this for Palace?

Patrick Van Aanholt does provide a lot for the South London side offensively as the left-back has scored [14](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/patrick-van-aanholt/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/52119/verein/873) goals and picked up [five](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/patrick-van-aanholt/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/52119/verein/873) assists whilst at the club.

However Mitchell was starting to become a [fan favourite](https://readcrystalpalace.com/2020/10/30/love-this-kid-fans-react-to-tyrick-mitchell-documentary/) for his defensive work. The 21-year old managed on average 2.3 clearances and four tackles a game this term ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/389579/Show/Tyrick-Mitchell)). He has made [24](https://eurofootballrumours.com/top-50-best-tacklers-ranked-by-most-tackles-in-the-premier-league-season-2020-21-03-11-2020-21429/) tackles in total, which is the [joint-fourth](https://eurofootballrumours.com/top-50-best-tacklers-ranked-by-most-tackles-in-the-premier-league-season-2020-21-03-11-2020-21429/) most in the League.

With Leeds already scoring [13](https://www.sofascore.com/tournament/football/england/premier-league/17) goals in seven games this season, the Eagles defence will have to be at its best and the absence of the young full-back will be a big blow.

Palace Journalist Matt Woosnam wrote an article on the player recently, [calling him](https://twitter.com/theathleticuk/status/1314483488649773058) CPFC’s ‘silent assassin’ with the ‘eye of the tiger’.

Mitchell has a [lot of fan support](https://readcrystalpalace.com/2020/10/30/love-this-kid-fans-react-to-tyrick-mitchell-documentary/) already at such a young age, and regardless of Van Aanholt’s return it is certainly a blow to lose a player bringing such a positive impact.
