# Crystal Palace: Sakho linked with exit

**Crystal Palace defender Mamadou Sakho has been linked with an exit from the club in the January transfer window.**

Sakho[has been linked](https://www.footmercato.net/a381325110222813651-logc-nice-explore-la-piste-mamadou-sakho) with a move to Ligue 1 side Nice, a move which may make sense for the French side as they have lost Dante because to a long-term injury problem. Back in November, Dante suffered [a knee injury which is now expected to keep him out for the next few months](https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2020/dante-out-for-at-least-6-months-with-acl-injury-might-have-played-his-last-game-for-nice/).

### **Nice could look to sign Sakho from Palace**

[A report from FootMercato claims](https://www.footmercato.net/a381325110222813651-logc-nice-explore-la-piste-mamadou-sakho) that Nice are looking to sign a player who offers experience and quality and they see Sakho as the perfect fit for their demands. They see the Frenchman as a ‘*safe bet*‘ even though the defender hasn’t been a regular for Palace this season.

They believe that a deal can be done as [Sakho’s contract at Selhurst Park runs out in the summer of 2021](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mamadou-sakho/profil/spieler/47713) and while Nice have looked at several potential options, they will now focus on Sakho as a target for the January transfer window.

Earlier this year, Roy Hodgson[praised Sakho and said](https://www.fourfourtwo.com/news/palace-boss-roy-hodgson-salutes-incredible-mamadou-sakho-return-1600249407000): “But he was on the pitch for a long time (against Bournemouth) after doing two training sessions, which is quite incredible.”

### **Palace might have to replace Sakho**

Sakho [joined Palace from Liverpool](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mamadou-sakho/transfers/spieler/47713) in the summer of 2017 for a fee of £25.38 million and since joining the club, the Frenchman has made[74 appearances in all competitions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mamadou-sakho/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/47713/verein/873) for the Eagles, scoring just the one goal.

In the current campaign for Hodgson’s men, Sakho has [made five appearances for](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mamadou-sakho/leistungsdaten/spieler/47713) the Eagles and has played once for the Under-23s side in a bid to improve his fitness levels.

As things stand, Palace have [five out-and-out options for the centre-back position](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/crystal-palace/kadernachposition/verein/873) and that includes Sakho, so they may well allow him to leave and use any incoming funds to invest in other areas of the squad.
