# Crystal Palace: Eagles want Morgan Gibbs-White

**Crystal Palace have entered the race to sign Wolves midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White, according to [The Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10978861/Crystal-Palace-Southampton-Nottingham-Forest-compete-Wolves-midfielder-Morgan-Gibbs-White.html).**

### The lowdown

The Eagles have made two additions to their squad so far this summer but have yet to make a dent in their transfer budget, as goalkeeper Sam Johnstone and winger Malcolm Ebiowei have arrived from Football League outfits West Bromwich Albion and Derby County on [free transfers](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/crystal-palace/transfers/verein/873).

Vieira may be looking to strengthen his midfield after 2021/22 loanee Conor Gallagher returned to parent club Chelsea.

Gibbs-White belongs to Wolves but spent last season on loan at Sheffield United in the Championship. He is valued at £9.9m by [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/morgan-gibbs-white/profil/spieler/429014) and is under contract at Molineux for another two years.

### The latest

[The Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10978861/Crystal-Palace-Southampton-Nottingham-Forest-compete-Wolves-midfielder-Morgan-Gibbs-White.html) journalists Simon Jones and Ben Miller have reported that Palace have identified Gibbs-White as a potential midfield reinforcement following Gallagher’s return to Stamford Bridge.

The Eagles are not the only Premier League club interested in the Wolves youngster, though, with Southampton and newly-promoted Nottingham Forest also keen.

The report stated that it is as yet unclear if Gibbs-White is part of Bruno Lage’s plans for the upcoming season, which suggests that the Molineux outfit could be open to letting him leave.

### The verdict

Gallagher’s departure from Palace has certainly left a hole in the team, as he [started 33 Premier League games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/conor-gallagher/leistungsdaten/spieler/488362/plus/0?saison=2021) last season and [contributed](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/conor-gallagher/leistungsdaten/spieler/488362/plus/0?saison=2021) eight goals and five assists.

Could Gibbs-White be the man to follow in his footsteps?

He certainly put up very strong numbers in the Championship, combining [12 goals with 10 assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/morgan-gibbs-white/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/429014). That return was good enough to earn Sheffield United’s Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year [awards](https://www.examinerlive.co.uk/sport/football/news/morgan-gibbs-white-scoops-two-23895947#:~:text=Sheffield%20United%20FC-,Two%20awards%20for%20Wolves%20loanee%20Morgan%20Gibbs%2DWhite%20in%20Sheffield,player%20of%20the%20year%20ceremony&text=Morgan%20Gibbs%2DWhite%20was%20the,two%20of%20the%20big%20prizes.), while European football expert Alex Barker hailed his performances last season as ‘[unreal](https://twitter.com/EuroExpert_/status/1529536462550708224)‘.

\[freshpress-poll id=”395299″\]

He might actually be more suited to the number 10 role in a 4-2-3-1 than in a 4-3-3, having [operated as](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/morgan-gibbs-white/leistungsdaten/spieler/429014/plus/0?saison=2021) an attacking midfielder, second striker and centre forward at Bramall Lane.

The question is whether he can thrive at the very highest level, having [rarely been trusted to start](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/332867/History/Morgan-Gibbs-White) in the Premier League, so it would be something of a gamble for Vieira and Palace.
