The January transfer window is rapidly approaching and Crystal Palace have been linked with a move for attacker Rabbi Matondo.
The latest on Matondo
The reports suggest that the Schalke winger could be set for a return to English football in January. As well as Crystal Palace, many other English sides such ss Brighton, Bournemouth and Watford are also all keen to take him on loan.
Would this be a good signing?
The 20-year-old has only played three times in the Bundesliga for Schalke this campaign. Ryan Giggs spoke about the player in the past, saying: “I was slightly surprised when he went [to Schalke], but he is a talent”
However, he could be a good loan signing for the Eagles. They only have three recognised wingers in Jeffrey Schlupp, Andros Townsend and Wilfried Zaha. With Zaha playing more upfront, forward Jordan Ayew has been more utilised as a winger if Roy Hodgson has needed another option.
This highlights that there is not a lot of squad depth in the position. A young promising winger on loan could, therefore, be a perfect option. He wouldn’t expect to play every game, and if he performed well when given the chance, the club could look to pursue him on a permanent in the summer.
He has also been linked to Real Madrid lately, and this perhaps highlights the world class potential that some sides believe he has.
