Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke has been linked with a move to fellow Premier League side West Brom and Dominic Fifield has provided an update on whether this move could happen.
The latest on Benteke
The journalist for The Athletic was asked whether rumours suggesting the Baggies are in talks with the Eagles over a short term deal for Christian Benteke are true. He replied: “Yup, but difficult deal to conclude, I imagine”
Benteke has had a tough time at Palace
The current campaign has been a much better one for the 30-year-old in comparison to the last couple of seasons and this has seen him win back Roy Hodgson’s trust.
He has scored three goals in 13 Premier League games. In contrast, across the 2018/19 and the 2019/20 seasons, Benteke only managed three goals in 44 appearances (Transfermarkt).
The Palace manager praised him following his brace against West Brom earlier this season, saying: ‘We’ve always known that Christian Benteke is a quality centre-forward with an awful lot of strings to his bow. It was great last Saturday that he was able to show the world that.’
The tally, however, still isn’t good enough and Palace fans will definitely be wondering what went wrong after he scored 17 goals in his first season.
Still, Benteke is the leading scorer at the club this season, outscoring fellow strikers Jordan Ayew and Michy Batshuayi and to allow him to go to a side battling for survival in the same division is very worrying news, especially with the South London side only five places above the relegation zone.
