Crystal Palace are reportedly interested in young defender Ivan Nasberg. They could look to make a move for him in the upcoming January transfer window.
Palace battle for Ivan Nasberg
According to The Sun, Crystal Palace are weighing up a £1million January move for Norwegian centre-back Nasberg. However it might not be easy to acquire him as fellow Premier League side Fulham are also interested.
Valerenga are thought to be ready to accept around £1m for Nasberg, whose contract expires in 2022.
The Eagles look to solve a future issue
The 24 year-old has had a bright start to the season in Norway. He has helped his side be solid at the back as he has managed on average 3.3 clearances and 1.2 interceptions per game (Sofascore), currently sitting 4th in the Eliteserien with the third-best defence.
He has only featured for youth sides at international level, but The Sun are reporting that he has been tipped for a call up to the senior side soon.
This could be an ideal transfer for the South London side – the four centre-backs they currently have are James Tomkins, Mamadou Sakho, Scott Dann and Gary Cahill. All four are above the age of 30, (Transfermarkt) with the latter two over the age of 33. They are close to being at the end of their career and Hodgson will need to find some future replacements.
Therefore, a young, cheap centre-back like Nasberg could be a good solution to their future problems. He might be unproven in an elite league, but there is plenty of experience in Hodgson’s defence for him to learn from, and it feels like a low risk high reward move for the club.
